Strategic Priorities
Overview
Strategic priorities are your answers to this question: “What are the most important things we should focus on in the next year?" They live in the Compass of your strategic plan.
Strategic priorities will help you and your team "keep first things first" when considering all of the different goals and tasks on your plate.
Your strategic priorities are reviewed and updated annually.
Examples
Examples of strategic priorities are:
- Build a replicable fund development process
- Refine our committee structure
- Strengthen employee engagement
Note that these priorities are not particularly measurable. That's ok since you can measure progress using your metrics and/or goals within your plan.
Different from Focus Areas
Strategic priorities are different than focus areas. A focus area is a somewhat unchanging organizational structure of Section 2 of your strategic plan. Examples of Focus Areas are Fund Development, Marketing, and Board Engagement.
A strategic priority may rely on the work of multiple focus areas. For example, the strategic priority to "Build a replicable fund development process" will rely on goals within the Fund Development, Marketing, and Board Engagement focus areas.
